We welcome all enquiries about funeral pricing.

Why have a funeral?

Funerals are for the living.

A funeral service is your opportunity to honour the life of someone who has died. Everyone who has been touched by the life of that person needs the opportunity to share in their farewell.

When we lose someone, a funeral service allows us to acknowledge that their life mattered to us and provides an outlet for our grief. By recognising a person’s life, funerals can strengthen family ties, reinforce beliefs about life and death, and allow us to express emotion.

Choosing a funeral provider

The first step when organising a funeral is to choose a funeral provider.

It’s important to choose someone you feel comfortable with and make sure they have the experience and capability to craft a farewell that suits your needs and celebrates the life of your loved one.

Here are some things to consider when making your choice:

  • Do they come highly recommended? A referral from someone you trust is a great place to start, so talk to family and friends. Find out what their experience was like and if they were happy with the end result.
  • Are they a member of the Selected Independent Funeral Homes and the Australian Funeral Directors Association? These associations require their members to honour a strict Code of Ethics and Practice, have qualified personnel, and own, control and maintain accredited premises.
  • Are they accessible? Your funeral provider should always be on hand – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year – and take the time to listen to your requirements and ideas.
  • Will they organise all aspects of the service? It’s important to choose a funeral provider who can handle all arrangements, including organising the church or chapel (as well as any after-service gathering space), liaising with the cemetery or crematorium, and arranging things like music, tribute presentations, flowers and more. This will minimise the amount you need to do in the lead up to the service and result in a co-ordinated, meaningful farewell.
  • What sort of business do they run? You’ll need to decide if you would prefer an independent and family-run, Australian owned and operated funeral provider like Olsens Funerals, or one that is part of a large corporation.
  • What is their level of experience? Experience matters, so check if your funeral provider has demonstrated experience working in your community.

Planning the service

A funeral service can be held almost anywhere.

With Olsens Funerals, you have access to a full range of facilities and a team with the proven expertise to craft a service that meets your needs. Whether it’s a church, funeral home chapel, function room, graveside, crematorium or outdoor location you’re considering, we can make it happen.

We’ll discuss your needs and preferences, and plan a service that allows you to both mourn the loss and celebrate the life.

When you meet with one of our funeral arrangers, you’ll decide on the various elements of the service including:

  • When and where you would like the service to be held
  • The type of service
  • Whether there will be a viewing
  • If burial or cremation will follow the service
  • Choice of coffin or casket
  • How your loved one will be dressed
  • Who you would like to be involved in the service
  • Flowers, music, vehicles and other relevant matters.

Price structure

Everyone is different and so too is every funeral service. This means that the total cost will depend on the arrangements you put in place.

There are some elements (such as the disposition of the body for cremation or burial) and legal requirements that are necessary for all funerals. Some of these costs are fixed and others will vary. There are also many elements that differ from funeral to funeral and these costs will vary depending on the choices you make.

Immediate arrangements

We understand that there are circumstances where only the basics are needed. Our simple immediate arrangements include cremation with no attendance or service.

The total cost of $X,XXX.00 includes:

  • Planning fee (all arrangements)
  • Transport (transfer into our care)
  • Mortuary care (preparation for cremation)
  • Cremation container
  • Vehicle (transfer to crematorium)
  • Crematorium (choice of crematorium and time of cremation at our discretion)
  • Legal documents (medical certificate, death certificate and cremation permit).

Payment

Our payment terms are as follows:

  • Full payment is due within 7 days of the final invoice being issued
  • Where the arrangements involve substantial costs, a deposit may be required
  • In some cases, third-party costs must be paid before the funeral service
  • An administration fee may be added when payment is processed by a solicitor or trustee, or in the case of repatriation
  • All costs associated with repatriation must be paid in advance.

If you arrange a funeral, you’re responsible for ensuring payment of the cost. Most banks allow payment of the funeral costs from the bank account of the deceased person before probate of the Will is granted. Where there is a deceased estate and you choose to have funeral costs paid from that estate, there will be an administration charge.
